New Columbia Swing Orchestra with Burnett Thompson, appears at the Embassy of Finland on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004.  This is the occasion of the annual Masquerade Ball Benefit.  The band performs from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.   Proceeds go to Caribbean hurricane relief.

Goethe Institute,  Friday, Oct. 15, 2004  Burnett Thompson performs original, extemporaneous piano scores for the otherwise silent films, THE FINANCES OF THE GRAND DUKE at 6pm and BURNING SOIL at 7.30pm directed by F. W. Murnau (of Nosferatu fame.)  These films are part of an extensive retrospective of Murnau's work presented with the National Gallery of Art. There is no admission charge.

Goethe Institute, Monday, May 24, 6:30 p.m. :  Burnett Thompson performs extemporaneous piano music for the otherwise silent film, Nosferatu, directed by F. W. Murnau.  There is no admission charge.

The Freer Gallery, at the Smithsonian hosts a retrospective of the films of Yasujiro Ozu during the Cherry Blossom Festival. Burnett Thompson performs orginal, extemporaneous musical scores for two of these films at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2004.

The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts hosts the Burnett Thompson Swing Band on the Millenium Stage. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, 6:00 p.m. The concert may be viewed and heard in its entirety at this link.

This concert includes the inevitable improvisational piano as well as a group of tunes composed by the performer. The group includes John Schaffer, bass, and Tony DiSanza, drums, with guest Les Thimmig on soprano sax.

Burnett Thompson performs extemporaneous piano music for the otherwise silent film, Die Bergkatze, directed by Ernst Lubitsch. This film and others at the Smithsonian Institution are part of a Library of Congress project to restore a substantial number of films from this era.

Kennedy Center Millennium Stage (Archived Performance), June 23, 6:00 p.m.
Burnett Thompson with Xiaohui Ma, who plays solo erhu and is one of today’s best traditional Chinese instrument performers. She plays throughout the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. This concert was broadcast live on the Internet, and can still be heard at the Archive. This concert was repeated at the
U.S. Capitol on Thursday, June 24, at noon.
